The Government expressed yesterday, through a communiqué issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, its confidence that the climate of dialogue will be maintained in Ecuador, where the candidate who will accompany Andrés Arauz in the second round of the presidential elections is still not clear.

The Executive congratulates Ecuadorians for the peaceful development of last Sunday’s elections in which Arauz, the candidate supported by former President Rafael Correa, came in first place, although he did not have enough support to win in the first round.

The communiqué praises the existing dialogue between the electoral authorities and the two candidates still in contention for the second position”, the conservative Guillermo Laso and the indigenous leader Yaku Perez. It then calls on all political and social actors to resolve any possible discrepancies peacefully through institutional channels.

Finally, the Government expresses its “full willingness to support this process, in line with the relevance of our ties with a brother country like Ecuador”.
