The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Arancha González Laya, had a telephone conversation yesterday with the new Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Paraguay, Euclides Acevedo.
“Foreign Minister Euclides Acevedo received a cordial phone call from his colleague from Spain, Arancha González Laya”, the Paraguayan Foreign Ministry reported via Twitter. Both ministers “agreed to work together to contribute to the political dialogue conducive to the development and prosperity of both countries”, it added. The Spanish Ministry did not provide any information on this meeting.
Acevedo is Paraguay’s fourth foreign minister since the arrival of Abdo Ramírez to the country’s presidency in August 2018. The current minister took office last January 22, replacing Federico González, who, in turn, had replaced in February 2020 his country’s previous ambassador to Spain, Antonio Rivas Palacios, appointed ambassador to Chile last December.
Last November, the Secretary of State for International Cooperation, Ángeles Moreno Bau, signed with Federico González the new Country Partnership Framework for the period 2020-2023, a bilateral agreement on development cooperation that defines strategic priorities and has a budget estimate of 142 million euros. Spain is one of the main donors to the Latin American country, with more than 200 million euros in its almost 30 years of presence in Paraguay.
