ICEX España Exportación e Inversiones and the Organización Interprofesional del Vino de España (OIVE) have signed an agreement to collaborate in promoting awareness of Spanish wines in international markets.
The agreement aims to contribute to improving its image among professionals and consumers around the world, and to promote the internationalization of the Spanish wine sector.
The agreement provides for the promotion of a program of dissemination and training on the excellence and diversity of Spanish wines in foreign markets, the development and participation in international promotion campaigns, the organization of training sessions for the sector’s own operators and the carrying out, by Spain’s economic and commercial offices abroad, of specific studies in priority countries.
They also include participation in actions of “Foods and Wines From Spain”, a promotional campaign being developed by ICEX in international media in which Spanish gastronomy is incorporated as the backbone.
Maria Peña, CEO of ICEX, stressed the importance of joining forces to place Spanish wine at the top of the international scene, making known the excellence and diversity of Spanish wines and thus build a powerful brand image with which to face the challenges of the future.
Angel Villafranca, president of OIVE, explained that this agreement is part of the foreign promotion strategy set by the Interprofessional.
In Spain there are around 3,700 exporting wineries, of which more than 2,100 have done so regularly, at least in the last 4 years, and more than 1,000 have a foreign turnover of more than 50,000 euros.
This great international vocation is also reflected in the figures recently presented by Interprofesional del Vino de España in the study on the economic and social importance of the Spanish wine sector. The report specifies that Spain is the world’s leading exporter in volume and ranks third in terms of value, with just over 3 billion euros invoiced in international markets in 2019, placing wine in the top-5 of the main products exported by the Spanish agri-food industry. In addition, today Spanish wines are present in 180 countries demonstrating, once again, the great work of internationalization and Spain brand building of the sector.
