The crew of a Spanish ship, confined in Salvador de Bahia by COVID

The crew of the Galician trawler Venturer, anchored in the port of Salvador de Bahia (Brazil), is confined after an outbreak of COVID-19 was detected at sea.

Apparently 31 of the 64 crew members who departed from Vigo last January 14, are infected with coronavirus. All remain on the ship, except for five of them – four Peruvians and one Spaniard – who have been transferred to a hospital.

The Spanish Consulate in Salvador de Bahia is acting as a bridge between the health authorities and those affected.

Ten days after setting sail, several of the crew members began to feel unwell, with symptoms compatible with covid-19, so they abandoned the idea of heading for the Falklands fishing grounds, where the ship was to fish, and the captain set course for Salvador de Bahia, where they arrived on January 28th.
