From next Wednesday, the Teatro de la Latina in Madrid presents the actor José María Pou in the play Viejo amigo Cicerón, premiered at the 65th edition of the Festival Internacional de Teatro Clásico de Mérida, after a long and successful tour throughout Spain.
At a time of dialectical battles in parliaments and social networks, comes a show that presents the historical relevance and intimate contradictions of one of the fundamental figures of politics and classical thought: the famous orator Cicero, defender of democratic values; against, until the time of his death, corrupt politicians with a dictatorial vocation. The text is set in a library in the present day. Two young students investigate the figure of Cicero. The appearance of a third character invites them to move to Republican Rome to reflect on ethics, morals, justice and coexistence, portraying an intellectual who analysed different dimensions of political life from the point of view of reason and common sense. Cicero was a man who was consistent in his decisions, even in the most adverse circumstances. Times and tickets at this link.
