The Diplomat
Last Wednesday, the embassies of the Central American Integration System inaugurated the permanent SICA-UAM forum, a joint project launched by the Nicaraguan delegation and the School of Economic Intelligence and International Relations of the Universidad Autónoma of Madrid.
This event marked the end of Nicaragua’s pro tempore presidency of the SICA Embassies in Spain. The forum aims to promote seminars, debates, round tables, research, academic exchanges and multidisciplinary events of interest to SICA and the University. It will also be a platform where the region can inform academia and other sectors of Spanish society of its achievements, progress and policies, particularly those aimed at promoting culture, art, education, thought, science, research and tourism.
The inauguration was addressed by the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies of the UAM, María Isabel Heredero de Pablos, who warmly welcomed the initiative. Likewise, Ángel Rodríguez, Professor of Fundamentals of Economic Analysis and Director of the School of Economic Intelligence, reflected on SICA from the European perspective.
The Nicaraguan Ambassador, Carlos Midence, in his capacity as President pro tempore, gave a summary of the integration process in the region, highlighting that “it has been a priority for Nicaragua and its good government to strengthen the union of our sister nations”.
The event ended with the handover of the pro tempore presidency to the Costa Rican ambassador, Ana Helena Chacón, who, in her words, praised, congratulated and thanked Nicaragua for its work during the six months that she was in charge of the presidency.
