Yerma, by the Guindalera Company, will be at the Sala Negra of the Teatros del Canal from 3 to 7 February.
The play allows us to reflect from a contemporary perspective on how women today face the conflicts that Lorca posed almost 100 years ago. A cast of actors and actresses tell the audience what the behaviour of their ancestors was like, of which we are heirs. Is there still an echo in our time of those rigid rules that generated self-censorship and lack of freedom? These rules are what lead Yerma, in an act of rebellion, to become a tragic character, capable of monstrous actions. How does Yerma find a way out of these imposed laws?
