The Diplomat
On the occasion of the 208th anniversary of the birth of Juan Pablo Duarte, the Embassy and the Consulate General of the Dominican Republic, together with the Instituto Duartiano’s office in Madrid, laid a wreath yesterday in front of the bust of the Father of the Dominican Homeland located in Madrid’s Paseo de Camoens.
This floral offering marks the beginning of the ‘Month of the Fatherland’, which starts with Duarte’s Day and ends on February 27, National Independence Day, according to the Dominican Embassy in a press release.
During this month, the embassy plans to organize cultural and official events to honour the Fathers of the Fatherland, as well as the symbols that make up the identity of the Dominican people.
The event was attended by, among others, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy, a.i., Felipe Herrera Cabral; the Consul General, Tomás Ogando García; the Director in Spain of the Instituto del Dominicano en el Exterior, Leonardo Marrero; and the President of the Instituto Duartiano in Madrid, Jeannette Alfau, who delivered speeches and placed flowers in the colors of the Dominican flag in front of the bust of Duarte.
