Navantia has been selected in the bidding process carried out by the US Government for the repair and maintenance of the Arleigh Burke-Class destroyers (DDGs) and other US Navy ships deployed at the Rota Naval Base (Cádiz), as the company informed yesterday.

The new contract, which is valid until January 2028, is for a maximum amount of 822.4 M€ and could generate more than 1,000 direct jobs per year.

In this way, Navantia consolidates its position as the main maintainer of the US Navy in Rota, a role it has been playing since 2013, and, in a way, the rumors which spoke about a possible transfer of the US naval troops to Morocco, and which Washington never confirmed, are removed.

The shipping company informs that this is an extensive contract in terms of manpower, with a high level of technical requirements demanded by the customer and very rigorous in meeting deadlines, which makes it an important source of wealth and training for Navantia and its collaborating companies.

He adds that it will also result in improvements in the processes and therefore in a better global positioning of the company in the Defense market.

Navantia has facilities and personnel deployed at the Rota Naval Base, where all the activities associated with this new order will be centralized. These facilities, in addition to the support to the US Navy ships, provide support activities to the Spanish Navy ships.

In a statement sent to the media, the Minister of Finance and Government Spokesperson, María Jesús Montero, expressed her satisfaction with the contract and said: “This is good news for the province of Cádiz. It is not a simple renewal, it is much more. It means an increase in the number of ships, associated workload and economic volume”.
