The Diplomat
The Ambassador of Argentina, Ricardo Alfonsín, together with the First Lady of the South American country, Fabiola Yáñez, took part in the opening of a cycle of conferences organised at the Instituto Gemológico Español, in a virtual format, which began with the dissertation entitled Entre Rodocrositas y Bastones presidenciales (Between rhodochrosites and presidential canes), delivered by the jewellery designer and gemmologist Lisi Fracchia, who is a member of the Institute’s Board of Directors.
“It was a day full of Argentinean flavour, in the words of the lecturer, since the rhodochrosite is a typical gemstone of the north of the Argentine Republic”. The Argentinean ambassador congratulated the Spanish Gemmological Institute for the organisation of this event, and the Argentinean designer Lisi Fracchia, and especially Fabiola Yáñez, whom he entrusted with a special greeting for the Argentinean president, Alberto Fernández.
The speaker explained the origin of this mineral, rhodochrosite. And for her part, the First Lady of Argentina explained the process of making the presidential batons that are given to the presidents of her country when they take office. “These canes, she said, are insignia that are loaded with symbolism and Argentine history, made up of elements originating in my country”. Afterwards, a goldsmith from the province of Santa Fe participated, who showed the process of elaboration of typical elements of the gaucho culture, through the use of silver, alpaca and rhodochrosite as well.
