April 13th will mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Hans Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza (1921-2002) and the Museum that has borne his name since 1992 will commemorate it with a series of exhibitions and activities.
The celebration began in October with the opening of the exhibition German Expressionism in the collection of Baron Thyssen-Bornemisza (which can be visited until 14 March). The aforementioned exhibition devoted to German Expressionism will be followed by Goldsmithing, paintings and sculptures in the collection of Baron Thyssen-Bornemisza (16 March 2021-23 January 2022), Italian painting from the 14th to 18th centuries in the collection of Baron Thyssen-Bornemisza at the MNAC (26 October 2021-9 January 2022) and American art in the Thyssen collection (23 November 2021-26 June 2022), all in the rooms of the permanent collection. In addition, the exhibition of the Baron’s portraits painted by Lucien Freud will continue. Other activities include the series of conferences on German Expressionism (20 and 27 January and 3, 10 and 17 February), the Educational Talks: Baron Thyssen-Bornemisza as a Collector (January-March 2021), the process of restoring Young Knight in a Landscape by Vittore Carpaccio before the public, and the subsequent exhibition of the results, as well as the open day on 13 April, the exact date of the Baron’s birth. A symposium, concerts and other initiatives will be announced throughout the year and, like the rest of the actions, will make up the microsite dedicated to this centenary, in which videos, conferences and other resources will be published.
