Vox asks the Government to start negotiations with the United Kingdom to recover Gibraltar

Vox has presented to the Congress of Deputies a non-binding proposal to be debated in the Foreign Affairs Committee, with which it seeks to force the Government to engage in a process of bilateral negotiation with the United Kingdom with a view to “recovering Spanish sovereignty” of Gibraltar now that the Brexit has been definitively consummated.

In their explanatory statement, Santiago Abascal’s party emphasizes that the Rock is outside the agreements between the United Kingdom and the EU and that for a pact to be reached that affects Gibraltar, Spain’s prior agreement is necessary, as the Executive itself has indicated.

In addition, in the proposal to which Europa Press has had access, they recall that Gibraltar is one of the “non-self-governing territories pending decolonization” and state that “this colonial vestige destroys the national unity and territorial integrity of Spain.

On the other hand, they denounce that the Rock has become “a military base”, given the frequency with which British military ships and submarines dock and pass through its port, which, according to Vox, “puts at risk the Spanish who live in the region of Campo de Gibraltar to suffer the consequences of a nuclear accident.

In this sense, they stress that this is “a strong contradiction with the Spanish national policy on nuclear matters, since Spain imposes a very restrictive use of nuclear energy, which is provided only for civilian purposes.
