Teatros del Canal premieres ‘Diva’, the last years of Maria Callas
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Until Sunday 24 January, the operatic drama Diva will be playing in the Sala Verde of the Teatros del Canal.

This time Albert Boadella’s play is introduced into the myth of Maria Callas to build the tragic life of this great diva when she is abandoned by Onassis and her voice no longer meets the expectations of her fame. Diva is a work between theatre and opera, performed by the soprano Maria Rey-Joly in the role of Callas and the pianist and tenor Antonio Comas in Aristo Onassis. In the dramatic plot of the work the arias of Tosca are used: The Troubadour, Madama Butterfly, La Wally, Dido and Aeneas, Otello, Norma, etc. The artist’s life always had something of a tragic opera: in it she juxtaposed the solitary Maria Callas, who lived through great personal sacrifices, with the public figure who reaped great triumphs surrounded by the jet set. In these last years that Diva presents, the artist is definitely in decline. Onassis has died and the critics are fed up with her. Tickets at this link.
