The Diplomat
The mobility problems that still persist in Madrid have forced the cancellation of the ceremony for the presentation of Letters of Credence of new ambassadors to His Majesty the King that was to take place today at the Royal Palace.
Yesterday, His Majesty the King’s Household announced the cancellation of the event that was on the Monarch’s agenda, which had already had to suspend his presence at several events at the beginning of the week, including the closing of the Conference of Ambassadors, which was also postponed.
Now it has been considered more prudent to postpone the ceremony of the presentation of the Letters of Credence, to avoid risks in the colorful ceremony, which includes the tour from the Palace of Santa Cruz to the Royal Palace, of the ambassadors on board of vintage horse-drawn carriages. The persistence of snow and ice in the streets through which the entourage passes entails certain danger for the good development of the act, in addition, that some ambassadors could have difficulties to arrive from their homes to the Palace of Santa Cruz.
It was foreseen that the ambassadors of Monaco, Catherine Dominique Fautrier; Latvia, Maris Klisans; Honduras, María Dolores Agüero Lara; Cyprus, Helena Mina; Guinea Bissau, Abel Coelho de Mendoça; Uruguay, Teresa Ayala Barrios; and Ghana, Muhammad Adam, would deliver their Letters of Credence to the head of state.
No other date has been set for the ceremony so far, but it is hoped that it can take place as soon as possible.
