The Diplomat
Diplomat Carlos Medina Drescher is the new deputy director general for North America, a post that became vacant following the appointment of Fernando Nogales, who held the post, as ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago.
At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Medina will be responsible for relations with the United States and Canada within the broad Directorate-General for North America, Eastern Europe, Asia and the Pacific, which is headed by Ana Salomon.
His arrival at the post comes at a time when Donald Trump is to be replaced by Joe Biden at the White House, which will lead to a change of US ambassador in Madrid in the coming months, as Richard Duke Buchan will leave the post on the 20th. In addition, Canada has just appointed a new ambassador, in the person of Wendy Drukier, who took up her post last December.
The new deputy director general already worked alongside Fernando Nogales in the affairs of the United States and Canada, after having been consul general in Stuttgart and deputy director general of personnel, as well as adviser to the Spanish embassy in Buenos Aires and consul in Agadir.
