Javier Ferrán has taken over the Presidency of the Board of Directors of International Consolidated Airlines Group (IAG) following the withdrawal of Antonio Vázquez as a Director and Chairman of the Board, as reported yesterday by the group in a statement to the Spanish National Securities Market Commission (CNMV).
Vázquez’s departure was announced on 31 July, after the former chairman of the board had reached nine years in office in January 2020 (the maximum recommended in the UK’s corporate governance code).
In addition to Ferran’s appointment, on 31 December last the company announced the implementation of changes in the composition of the board of directors in order to have a majority of independent non-executive directors from the European Union. Thus, Deborah Kerr, María Fernanda Mejía and Stephen Gunning left the board, while Peggy Bruzelius, Eva Castillo Sanz and Heather Ann McSharry joined it.
