The Diplomat
The Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Madrid organized a cultural event on 24 December to introduce traditional UAE sports to primary school students at the CEIP Jacinto Benavente school in Galapagar, Madrid.
A delegation from the UAE Embassy, headed by the head of the Department of Political, Economic, Cultural and Media Affairs, Sara Al Mahri, shared with the students of the CEIP a series of interactive activities on the importance of sport and its daily practice, according to a statement issued by the Embassy. The audiovisual presentation also served to introduce children to the world of traditional UAE sports, such as falconry, camel racing and horse racing, among others.
During the visit, on the occasion of the Christmas holidays, representatives of the UAE Embassy distributed gifts related to the Emirates and its culture to the children.
For his part, the Mayor of Galapagar, Alberto Gómez Martín, highlighted the strength of relations between the United Arab Emirates and Spain in sports, as shown by the participation of Spanish athletes in sporting events held in the UAE, such as the World Tennis Championship and Formula 1 races in Abu Dhabi.
The UAE delegation also stressed the importance of cultural cooperation between Spain and the UAE, as well as the need to open up the cultural horizons of students.
Finally, the children presented the UAE diplomat with a painting they had made themselves, entitled ‘Sport unites cultures’, in recognition of the UAE Embassy. The visit concluded with an invitation from the Mayor of Galapagar to repeat the visit to open up avenues of cooperation between Galapagar’s cultural organizations and the Embassy.
