With the collaboration of the Centro Checo in Madrid, the company Réplika Teatro stages since tomorrow until Sunday 13 its new production, El Proceso (The Process), with 9 performers on stage and the authorship of one of the most lucid voices of the European scene of the last century: Franz Kafka.
The trial today could be perfectly entitled “The Guilty One”. Josef K. is guilty. Guilty of what? Of something that he himself is not capable of defining or understanding. Yet he feels guilty. Guilty, perhaps, of his abandonment, of his conformity with the rules of the game imposed by the system, by society. We live in an era of widespread radical conformism. We are becoming effective worker-consumers. And, in spite of everything, we feel guilty. K.’s executioners accuse him of a lack of initiative, of productivity, of self-sufficiency. The reality of Josef K. suddenly presents the spectator with the clash of two systems, typical of the society in which we live: the system of discipline and duty and the system of productivity and possibilities.
