Casa Árabe presents ‘We will always have Beirut’, by Laila Hotait

December 10, 2020
in Leisure

This afternoon, at 6pm, Casa Árabe of Madrid presents the book Siempre nos quedará Beirut, by Laila Hotait, Spanish-Lebanese filmmaker and artist. The event can be seen on our Youtube and Facebook Live channels.

We will always have Beirut. Cine de auteur y guerra(s) en el Líbano, 1970-2006 (Ed. Akal, 2020) takes an audiovisual look at the violent episodes suffered in Lebanon since 1975 and shows how the films have together made up a complete and diverse filmography that serves as a tool to preserve the intimate, collective and national memory of a country. This monograph is both a regional historical memory that reflects and reflects on how civil society, despite religious or social class differences, not only resists violence, but builds and rebuilds what it destroys.
