Spain and Italy have decided to retake the parliamentary forums prior to the bilateral government summits eight years after they were last held, the President of Congress, Meritxell Batet, reported on Monday during an official visit to Rome.
Batet was received by the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, and by the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Roberto Fico, during an official trip prior to the 19th bilateral summit between Spain and Italy, which will take place today and will be chaired by the Spanish Presidente of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the President of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Italy, Giuseppe Conte.
After meeting with her counterpart, Batet announced that both she and Fico had agreed on the decision to revive the parliamentary forums between Spain and Italy prior to the bilateral summits between governments, which were interrupted in 2013 and will be held again from next year, also coinciding with the holding of the parliamentary G20 and the preparation of the COP26 climate summit at parliamentary level, which will also take place in Italy.
