The Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, visited La Palma Airport yesterday, accompanied by the Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Zurab Pololikashvili, on the occasion of the international conference on tourism to be held today, which aims to revive international tourism and show the rest of the world that Spain and the Canary Islands are safe destinations, reports Europa Press.

Zurab Pololikashvili stated that his second visit to the Canary Islands is intended to send a message to the whole world that the islands are prepared to continue receiving more international tourists, and highlighted the opportunity that tomorrow’s summit represents to help the archipelago during the rest of the winter tourism season.

During the visit, she was accompanied also by the Minister of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands, Yaiza Castilla; the President of the Island Council, Mariano H. Zapata, and the Senior Vice President of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), Maribel Rodríguez.

Maroto stressed that this meeting is taking place in the Canary Islands because “it has demonstrated with facts that it is possible to travel safely” despite the pandemic.
