The Fundación Japón begins with this online conference, Kabuki: a popular theatre, given by Javier Vives, architect and author of the book El teatro japonés y las artes plásticas (Satori Ediciones), to a new series of talks in which different aspects of Japanese performing arts, both traditional and contemporary, will be discussed. The appointment is tomorrow at 6 pm.
The speaker will be showing some of the most characteristic features of one of the most colourful and popular theatre genres in Japan. He will talk about its origins, its scenic space and the types of characters and actors. The role of make-up and costumes, the way in which fighting scenes are developed, as well as the presence of humour and horror in certain plays will also be discussed. Similarly, the features of music and dance, elements that are part of all the performances, will be very briefly explained. The session will be complemented by the projection of abundant photographs and short video clips in order to enjoy this theatrical form in all its facets.
