On the occasion of the 20th Italian Language Week, scheduled to last until 25 October under the title The Italian between word and image: graffiti, illustrations, comics, the Institutos Italianos Culturales of Madrid and Barcelona, in coordination with the Embassy in Madrid and the General Consulate in Barcelona, have prepared a rich calendar of online initiatives, through which they will offer a broad overview of the different combinations that give shape to the image… in the Italian language.
With the initiative “Comics in the Museums”, the Instituto Cultural Italiano in Madrid presents the collection to narrate through the pencils of 51 of the most famous comic creators of the national panorama the contemporary nature of the Italian museums. To celebrate the centenary of the birth of Gianni Rodari, the illustrious Italian writer and educator, the IIC in Madrid is also dedicating two initiatives to him: the virtual exhibition “Figures for Gianni Rodari-Italian excellence” and the webinar “100 years of Rodari and beyond”, with illustrators and scholars of the Italian writer.
On the YouTube channel of the Instituto Cultural Italiano in Barcelona, the project “Diabolik in Barcelona” is scheduled to be published, which includes a special volume on the famous character created by the Giussani sisters in 1962. In addition, Paolo Gervasi, from Pompeu Fabra University, will offer an exciting and entertaining analysis of the transposition into comics, with Disney characters, of the classics of Italian literature, from “Paperin Furioso” to the “Promessi topi”, including “Paperopoli liberata”. Finally, the virtual exhibition “The new comic book: themes, authors, languages of the Italian graphic novel” has been programmed. Through the websites of the IICs in Madrid and Barcelona it will be possible to learn about the stories and protagonists of a genre that brings with it all the richness of the Italian comic tradition.
