From 9 to 11 October, the sixth edition of the India in Concert Festival will be held in the Red Room of the Teatros del Canal. This event is organised every two years by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), the Indian Embassy and Casa de la India, in collaboration with the theatre itself, and aims to bring Spanish music and dance closer to the public.
This year’s edition pays tribute to the musician Ravi Shankar, on the centenary of his birth. Shankar rose to fame in the West in the 60s, after collaborating with George Harrison and performing at the Monterey festivals, at Woodstock and at the Bangladesh Concert. The event features Gaurav Mazumdar, who trained musically with Shankar; Sujata Banerjee, one of today’s leading figures in the discipline of Kathak, India’s classical dance; and Somjit Dasgupta, one of today’s leading performers of the sarod, one of India’s oldest instruments.
