The recent triumph of the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS, by its spanish acronym) in Bolivia confirms the failure of the instrumentalisation of US colonial institutions such as the OAS, as well as the double standards of the so-called international human rights organisations, which never acted or spoke out against the coup d’état in the Plurinational Republic of Bolivia in 2019.
These organisations, such as the Miami-based IACHR, and even organisations such as the United Nations Human Rights Commissioner, have their political agendas fully aimed against Cuba, Nicaragua or Venezuela. It matters little to them that Nicaragua is a country with enviable social peace and the lowest homicide rate in the region, which has reduced poverty rates by more than half. Their work agenda coincides, from their inception, in putting a magnifying glass on those countries in the world and in Latin America that prioritise their national interests and work to reverse the ravages caused by the savage neoliberal policies applied for decades.
In the case of Nicaragua, a small country, which has been the recurrent victim of military aggressions, interference of all kinds, media campaigns of unimaginable brutality loaded with the most abject lies. For example, in the 1980s, while Reagan financed with drug money the massacre, destruction and death of more than 50,000 people against the Sandinista Revolution, the self-styled human rights NGOs, financed by the CIA, accused Nicaragua with the greatest impudence of human rights violations. Today, other organisations, also financed by USAID, are camouflaging themselves as “experts” in economics, human rights, governance, health issues, and epidemics, in order to falsely and unabashedly denounce Nicaragua. These appear in all the media, constructing the same old lies.
It does not matter that there are harmful government systems allied with the empire in the world, the magnifying glass will always be focused on Iran, Venezuela, Cuba or Nicaragua. The crux of the matter is not the political system, but the ideological one.
As the years go by, the instrumentalisation of these international organisations loses all modesty and the media lobby serves to pretend to bring truth to the reality they have invented in the world. Never has humanity lived so interconnected, with such access to information and at the same time so uninformed and alienated.
In spite of all this, people continue to show an integrity and dignity that cannot be annulled either by their instrumentalisation or by their monopoly on information. Today it was the Bolivian people that showed its confidence in its model; soon it will be the Venezuelan people, in 2021, and it will be the Nicaraguan people who will once again confirm their full confidence in the Sandinista model that has made so many transformations possible in such a short time and has resisted the imperial siege. Latin America is winning and will continue to win this siege. It is therefore urgent to allow the peoples to take their own decisions, go to the polls peacefully and without foreign blackmail and interference, such as sanctions, which are imposed unilaterally and contrary to international law by the USA and the European Union; or at their extreme, coups d’état or attempts by them to usurp democratic powers.
When the peoples make a decision, no external force can stop them, but even so, it is their duty to denounce and fight against the arrogant policies of those who for centuries have imposed their one-dimensional ideology, culture and domination, which, to top it all, are dressed up in a “morality” that does not even fit them.
