The veteran actress Concha Velasco returns to Madrid’s stages with the play La habitación de María (Mary’s room) at the Teatro Reina Victoria, a monologue that portrays loneliness and which will be presented from tyesterday until 24 January.
Concha Velasco plays the role of Isabel Chacón, a famous writer who has won the Planeta Prize, who suffers from agoraphobia and has lived locked up in her skyscraper flat for 43 years. Her figure is a real mystery to the writer’s followers and on her 80th birthday she continues to celebrate in solitude, in her home on the 47th floor. That night a fire breaks out and all the tenants are forced to evacuate the building. But for Isabel this is impossible, simply because she cannot leave the house. As the flames reach the rooftop, for exactly 75 minutes, Isabel will have to make the most important decision of her life, facing her fears, her ghosts and all the traumas of her life that have led her to this crossroads with an intelligent sense of humour, before it is too late.
