A new customer service system can revolutionize the work of consulates and facilitate the management of passports and visas. It is called Tele-Embassy and is being promoted by the Spanish company of the same name.

Its director, Theodor Trujillo, assures The Diplomat that “the system is totally reliable, secure and proof against all types of hackers“. Security is the aspect on which Tele-Embajada España insists the most, “since we understand the delicate work that diplomats carry out and its consequences for the country they represent”.

The system is based on the development experienced by the Telemedicine to combat the Covid-19 during these last months. Therefore, Trujillo adds, “the boxes, which will be installed in town halls and other official buildings, have all the hygienic-sanitary measures that guarantee their use in total safety”.

The Tele-Embassy platform, as explained by its promoters, “is a safe, reliable and economical solution for remote assistance” to those who have to manage any procedures in embassies or consulates, “avoiding travel and protecting diplomatic personnel from possible contagion.

Its operation is very simple. The user accesses the box and selects the Embassy with which he or she wishes to establish the video conference connection by clicking on the corresponding flag on the monitor. An important detail, according to Theodor Trujillo, “is that each Embassy can establish its own identification and security control protocol, which guarantees the confidentiality of the management and prevents unwanted access”.

The economic aspect has also been taken into account. “Embassies do not have to make any investment in equipment, installation or maintenance,” he says, “while they can increase their management income by applying a fee for a service that saves time and money for users, since they do not have to move physically if they live in another city”.

The boxes are equipped with a touch screen monitor, camera and microphone, printer and digital scanner, ID-Passport reader, online signature and integrated payment, which allows all the procedures to be carried out at the same time.
