Spain has co-sponsored, together with Portugal, a humanitarian aid operation to Venezuela organised by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection (DG ECHO), with which 82.5 tonnes of humanitarian supplies were transported to Caracas on two flights between Wednesday and Saturday.
The shipment consisted of personal protection equipment, medicines, water purification equipment and family hygiene kits from UNICEF, the International Committee of the Red Cross, Doctors without Borders and the United Nations Population Fund, which will benefit more than half a million Venezuelans, including children, women and health professionals, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Five of the tons sent correspond to a donation that the Spanish Agency of International Cooperation for Development (AECID) has made to Unicef for distribution in the field that corresponds to 544 hygiene kits for families.
