The Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia in Spain, Renata Cvelbar, received yesterday the Gold Medal of Honour of the Nobility Corps of the Principality of Asturias from the hands of the Corporation’s Magistral Advisor, Francisco de Borbón, in an intimate and affectionate ceremony that took place in her residence.
First of all, the Slovenian ambassador wanted to thank the Asturian association for the presentation of such an important award. “For me, she said, it is a great pleasure to receive a medal that contains so much Spanish and European history. I feel deeply proud.”
“I have always had a great interest in history,” continued Renata Cvelbar, “and Spain is a country with enormous wealth in this regard. I visited Asturias and Covadonga last year, where I saw and admired La Satina, and I was impressed by the Visigothic history, its development of civil and family rights, also with regard to women. For example, in Visigothic law, the married woman also owned her own property”.
“I feel very proud to have represented my country in Spain,” concluded the ambassador, “a country in which I feel at home, which welcomed me from the very beginning and which has given me the opportunity to discover, get to know and learn a great many things”.
For his part, Alfredo Leonard, Institutional Relations Counselor of the Corps, said that: “the Slovenian ambassador receives this award as a humble recognition of the work done over the years as ambassador of his country in Spain and as a reminder of friendship and affection of the Knights and Ladies of this noble corporation to his person.
The event was attended by the ambassadors of Cyprus, Luxembourg, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Belgium, Hungary and Serbia, as well as a delegation from the Asturian Corporation.
