The Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando presents this morning, at 12.30 pm, the book Manuel García de la Prada, Corregidor of Madrid. My Political Conduct’, by Fernando del Río Ruiz de la Prada, in a ceremony with the participation of José Luis Martínez-Almeida, Mayor of Madrid; Alfonso González-Calero, art critic, and the author of the book. Free entrance until full capacity is reached.
Academic and friend of Goya and Moratín, Manuel García de la Prada, mayor-corregidor of Madrid at the time of the French invasion, left in his own handwriting a document that sees the light two hundred years later, published in the book by Fernando del Río Ruiz de la Prada. In the aforementioned document he left his loyalty to Spain beyond doubt, while detailing his work while he was in charge of the capital’s City Hall, thanks to which he made possible the salvation of Madrid, a city in ruins and condemned to die.
