Last goodbye to Joaquin Antuña, forefather of International Human Rights

April 1, 2020
in Uncategorized

Grand Prince Jorge Rurikovich

Unfortunately, yesterday, March 31st, 2020, I received the sad news that a great friend, great professional and better person, Mr. Joaquín Antuña León, died on Monday, March 30th, 2020 at 10:30 am at the Fundación Jimenez Diaz in Madrid, from pneumonia.

In spite of myself, without being my specialty journalism, as it was for Don Joaquín Antuña y León, today it is my turn to write these sad lines that tarnish the vision of the one who writes them, Great Prince Jorge Rurikovich, descendant and defender of the Rurik dynasty of Russia, to whom Don Joaquin Antuña y León always gave his cultural, social and journalistic support (which I never accepted, so as not to call attention in my meetings of International Relations with figures and heads of state of countries and sovereign governments).

Most probably, the Coronavirus, Covid-19 has claimed one more victim, Don Joaquin Antuña León, a great friend, professor of the Society of International Studies, under the patronage of His Majesty King Juan Carlos I of Spain, and president of the United Nations Peace and Cooperation Foundation.

A true warrior, a tireless defender of Human Rights, public health, public education and a forerunner of awards for art, culture and humanities, and cultural awards for children in the Spanish and foreign education system.

Don Joaquín Antuña León, great lion whose flame burns in all the souls that have passed through your path, you are once again with our great friend who died recently, Don Fernando De Salas López, honorary rector of the Society of International Studies and precursor of the Green Helmets in the United Nations.

Dear friend Joaquín, you are leaving without having written your memoirs, which your friends knew were worth more for what you kept quiet than for what you told… Personage of the Spanish Transition, you were a direct witness of the conversations and private advice of all the protagonists of the same. Most of them always had that affection for you because of your discretion, even though as a journalist you could have made use of them… Maybe that’s why you take away the affection and respect of those of us who had the honor of knowing you and calling you a friend.

Mentor, partner, friend, “uncle”, I hope to see you again; not soon, not late. Rest in peace, Don Joaquín Antuña León.
