This evening, at 7pm, Casa Árabe will screen the classic shadow theatre film The Adventures of Prince Achmed in its Madrid headquarters. This is a collaboration with the Teatro Real on the occasion of the programming of the opera The Magic Flute. Free admission until full capacity is reached.
With a spectacular staging inspired by shadow theatre, Casa Árabe pays tribute to this type of stage resource which is a very present cultural tradition in many Arab countries. The Adventures of Prince Achmed is considered the oldest surviving animated feature film (released in 1926), whose story is based on the tales of The Thousand and One Nights, especially the story of Prince Achmed and the fairy Peri Banu, also featured in Andrew Lang’s The Blue Fairy Book.
