This afternoon and tomorrow, Saturday January 25, at 7 pm, the Fundación Juan March (Castelló, 77) is screening the 1931 film City Lights, by Charles Chaplin, with Virginia Cherrill, Florence Lee and Harry Myers. Presented by Juanma Ruiz. Free until full capacity is reached. One third of the screening can be reserved.
A homeless man tries to raise money to help a young blind woman, who has fallen in love with him, believing him to be a gentleman of good standing. A criticism of the importance of appearances in society, of the lack of communication, of the injustice of a world where only money counts… Not even the cinematographer himself was spared the acidic gaze of Chaplin, who proposed here a film where the appearance of sound and word is shown as another form of human incommunication.
