The beginning of 2020 has brought new turbulence to a troubled region. In order to understand this complex situation, Casa Árabe invites an experienced journalist based in Iran, Catalina Gómez Ángel, and Hayder al-Khoei, a political and security analyst, to talk about it this evening at 7pm. The event will be presented and moderated by Karim Hauser, Coordinator of International Relations at Casa Árabe. Free entrance until full capacity is reached. In English and Spanish with simultaneous interpretation.
The escalation of tension after the assassination of the Iranian general Qasem Soleimani (in the photo) by Washington and the shooting down of a Ukrainian commercial plane by Tehran have generated an instability that opens new questions. Among other variables in the equation are: the credibility crisis and popular demonstrations in Iran, the role of the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard in the region, the implications for neighbouring countries like Iraq and its intricate relations with Washington and Tehran, or the historic international agreement to prevent Iran from having nuclear weapons.
