The Embassy of Nicaragua together with the publishing group Sial Pigmalión took advantage of the celebration of the 153rd anniversary of Rubén Darío’s birth to announce the winner of the “Rubén Darío International Literature Prize 2020” at an event held at Casa América last Thursday. In this edition, the prize was unanimously awarded to the Extremaduran author Hilario Jiménez for his work “Sabia ceniza“. This collection of poems joins other articles, essays and critical editions about the avant-garde, the authors of the Generation of 27 and contemporary Spanish poetry published previously by Jiménez.
Likewise, the Nicaraguan ambassador, Carlos Midence, praised Dario’s work and pointed out that “the Prince of Spanish letters took modernism to its maximum expression, in a work that is as relevant today as ever”. Finally, the writer and general secretary of the Spanish PEN Club, Gloria Nistal, gave a speech entitled “Rubén Darío seen through images” in which she gave a biographical sketch of the Nicaraguan author through photographs.
