This afternoon, at 7.30 p.m., Casa América presents the book La ambición del botarate (The Ambition of the Botarate), by the Spanish ambassador in Cuba, Juan Fernández Trigo. The event will feature the participation of the journalist Pilar Santos, the ambassador of Spain Inocencio Arias and the author of the book.
La ambición del botarate tells the story of Gonzalo, a young diplomat who goes crazy with ambition. His only obsession in life is to become an ambassador. Destined in an imaginary Caribbean republic, this irreducible botarate conspires to neutralize his ambassador and thus put himself at the head of the diplomatic representation. The nonsensical situations unleashed as a result of his crazy adventure provide an opportunity to reflect on the hidden drives that guide human beings in the professional sphere. In a certain way, and beyond the caricature of a man who has gone beyond the limits of reason, what is certain is that in Gonzalo some miseries can be discovered that are manifested in our environment more frequently than desirable. Unfortunately, it is probable that Gonzalo incarnates, in a histrionic way, something of the botarate that we all carry inside.
