The Teatro Real in Madrid presents Giuseppe Verdi’s opera Giovanna d’Arco, performed by Plácido Domingo, together with Carmen Giannattasio and Michael Fabiano. Three performances of this Verdian opera, on 14, 17 and 20 July, alternating with Il trovatore, on stage until 25 July.
Plácido Domingo will play the role of the old shepherd Giacomo, next to the soprano Carmen Giannattasio, in the titular role, and the tenor Michael Fabiano, as King Charles VII of France. They will perform together with Coro y Orquesta Titulares del Teatro Real -Coro Intermezzo and Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid- under the direction of James Conlon. Based on a free adaptation of the drama by Friedrich Schiller -author who has also inspired I masnadieri, Luisa Miller and Don Carlo-, the plot of the opera is structured around the indomitable personality of Giovanna d’Arco who debates between service to his homeland and his personal feelings and emotions.
