On Sunday, 7 July, UNESCO accepted Azerbaijan’s nomination for inclusion on the World Heritage List of the “Historic Centre of Sheki with Khan Palace“. The proposal was accepted during the ordinary session of UNESCO’s 43rd World Heritage Committee held at the Baku Congress Centre, according to Azertac.

The city of Sheki, 370 km from Baku, is home to Sheki Khan Palace, a historic and architectural monument of world importance. The building, built in the 18th century, is considered to be one of the most beautiful examples of 18th century Caucasian palatial architecture, as well as pearls from the Islamic East. Together with the historical centre of the city, the palace has an area of 120 hectares.
