One Gesture, an essential work on sign language, opens in Spain. It is a piece about communication with the world, with the world of the people who listen and also with the world of the rest of deaf people. The show, directed by Wojtek Ziemilski & Wojciech Pustoła, by Nowy Teatr, can be seen today and tomorrow at 8 pm at Teatro Conde Duque.
The play interpellate with questions that seem simple, but whose answers are complicated: How does communication work? In what ways are knowledge, emotions and culture produced, transmitted and processed? If, as Wittgenstein said, “the limits of my language are the limits of my world”, what can we learn from deaf people? What is universal in the experience of communicating and what is unique?
