The Korean Cultural Centre presents the play ‘At that time, Byeonhongrye’, by the South Korean theatre company Haddangse, which will take place on June 17 at 8 p.m. at the Teatro Fígaro (Dr. Cortezo Street, 5). The play will be developed in a new way that combines theatrical and cinematographic techniques.
The play is inspired by the 1931 murder of Maria (Hong-rye Byun) in Busan during the Japanese colonial occupation of Korea. As in silent films, the actors stage Maria’s life and use the melodramatic style and accent of the 1930s. They take on the role of narrators and get involved in the story in various ways, representing the lines of the same character through several people.
