The Torres García Gallery of Casa América is presenting until July 27 the exhibition Sobre el arcoíris, a project by Diana Markosian, an Armenian-American photographer and winner of the Elliott Erwitt Havana Club 7 Fellowship, aimed at capturing today’s Cuba through new perspectives of urban photography. The exhibition is part of PhotoEspaña 2019’s official program.
The project combines fantasy-inspired portrait and studio video with documentary images to create a multi-level representation of the transition from young Cuban women to women. The quinceañera is a widely celebrated tradition in Latin American culture, where young women dress like princesses and celebrate their fifteenth birthday and transition to maturity in a luxurious party with guests. Admission is free until full capacity is reached.
