The Council of Ministers authorized this Friday the creation of a state mercantile company dependent on Aena to manage the airports of the northeast of Brazil.
The new company, Aeroportos do Nordeste do Brasil SA, is the result of the strategy of international expansion of Aena, whose subsidiary, Aena Desarrollo Internacional, was the winner on March 15 in the auction for the concession of the Northeast Group airports, convened by the Brazilian Government.
The concession, which includes the airports of Recife, Maceió, Aracajú, Campina Grande, João Pessoa and Juazeiro do Norte, has a term of 30 years, with the possibility of five more years. The airport group of the Northeast registered in 2018 a traffic of more than 13 million passengers, 6.5% of the total Brazilian traffic. Specifically, the Recife airport is the eighth in Brazil for total passenger traffic and the fifth for international passenger traffic.
