The event, which will be inaugurated by King Felipe VI and the president of Argentina, Mauricio Macri, “does not have a spirit of specialists, but an informative spirit, of being able to transmit to the Hispanic community the idea that the language belongs to all its speakers”, said the director of the Cervantes Institute, Luis García Montero, during the presentation of the details of the Congress, which took place last week at the headquarters of this institution in Madrid.
“The Córdoba of Leopoldo Lugones or María Teresa Andruetto will be infected by the beautiful Spanish language”, declared Secretary of Tourism of the Argentine Republic, Gustavo Santos, during the ceremony. It is an event “in which the whole society participates” and where the Spanish will be screened, “one of the languages of the future”, added, on the other hand, the governor of the province of Córdoba, Juan Schiaretti.
It is the second time that Argentina hosts the Congress. The first time was in the city of Rosario in 2004. They also hosted this meeting, in the past, the cities of Zacatecas (Mexico, 1997), Valladolid (Spain, 2001), Cartagena de Indias (Colombia, 2007), Valparaíso (Chile, 2010), Panama City (2013) and San Juan (Puerto Rico, 2016).
The congress -whose inauguration will also include the writers Mario Vargas Llosa and Carme Riera, the Ibero-American General Secretary, Rebeca Grynspan; the director of the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) and the ASALE (Association of Academies of the Spanish Language), Santiago Muñoz Machado; and García Montero himself- will gather more than 200 writers, members of the Academies of the Spanish Language, rectors, professors and university professors, editors, journalists, translators, businessmen and other professionals related to the Spanish language.
The symposium will be structured around five thematic sections or axes: Spanish, universal language, Language and interculturality, Challenges of Spanish in 21st century education, Spanish and digital society and The competitiveness of Spanish as a language for innovation and entrepreneurship.
