The Government of Spain yesterday welcomed the Treaty of Cooperation and Integration between Germany and France signed yesterday in Aachen because it considers that “it means redoubling the defense of multilateralism and European integration, which are questioned by some political actors”.
In a press release the Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomes the agreement, which goes deeper into the Elysée Treaty of 1963, “a milestone that consolidated Franco-German reconciliation and was an important boost to European construction”. “Spain fully shares the bet that the new Treaty makes for the reinforcement of the common foreign, defense and security policy so that Europe has an authentic capacity for autonomous action in these matters, for the reinforcement and deepening of the Economic and Monetary Union, as well as for the promotion of economic and fiscal convergence”, adds the text.
