Writers Ángeles Castillo and María Socorro Mármol (Rubén Darío International Award 2018) highlighted the influence of the Nicaraguan poet in Spanish literature during the commemoration of the 152nd anniversary of his birth, which took place on Monday at the headquarters of the Ibero-American General Secretariat in Madrid. Both agreed to underline that the ‘father’ of literary modernism was a reference for the generations of spanish writers of 98′ and 27′ generations.
The event, presented by the director of the Cultural Space of the Segib, Enrique Vargas, was chaired by the ambassador of Nicaragua to Spain, Carlos Midence, who described the poet as “the father and magical teacher” of the process of Central American independence. The ambassador stood up for “continuing to reinterpret” Darío to understand the historical circumstances in which this “emblematic and necessary personality”, both for America and Spain, developed his work.
