Foreign embassies, upset with Carmena’s ‘Madrid Central’

They demand free access for Diplomatic Corps vehicles to the central ring

The Diplomat. 02/11/2018

A great number of foreign embassies in Spain have expressed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in the last weeks, their concern about the implementation of ‘Madrid Central’, the plan designed by Madrid’s City Council that will restrict the access of vehicles to the city center from the next day 30, The Diplomat learnt.

The diplomatic officials accredited in Madrid wish the City Council to find a solution so that vehicles with registration plates of the Diplomatic Corps can access the central ring, where are located, for example, the headquarters of the Community of Madrid (Puerta del Sol) and, above all, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (next to the Plaza Mayor), to which diplomats must go frequently for different reasons.

The Foreign Ministry is aware of the discomfort that the entry into force of ‘Madrid Central’ will cause the embassies and is making arrangements with the City Council that leads Manuela Carmena to find a solution.
