Enrique Miguel Sánchez Motos
Civil Administrator of the State
The Spanish politics is corrupt. It does not serve as a tool for its fundamental purpose. Political parties, as well as “taking part in the formation and expression of the popular will”, must be aimed at fulfilling the mission that the Constitution establishes in its preamble: making “the will of the Spanish Nation to guarantee the democratic coexistence” a reality. Without that, its existence loses its entire value and they end up becoming parasite “classes” that live, them and their circles, on public funds, that contribute little value to society and that will take Spain towards disaster.
On Thursday May 24, the Congress approved the National Budget. The ceremony was an unedifying example of purchase, at a very expensive price, of a bunch of votes to reach the absolute majority. PSOE and PP did not know, when the absolute majorities of Gónzalez were finished, how to reach an agreement that allowed governing and approving the Budget of the most voted party, even demanding a minimum number of seats.
On this occasion, the situation is grotesque. Just the day after the approval of the Budget, with the support of Nueva Canarias, electoral partner of PSOE, Pedro Sánchez, on May 25, presented a no-confidence motion against President Rajoy.
The economic crisis and separatism are the two big risks. The motivations of the actors are key in understanding the extent to which extent these risks can worsen.
In the case of Pedro Sánchez, it seems that the motivation for his decision is based on his personal ambition. It is obvious that the “No to Rajoy” cannot be the center of a State policy.
In the case of Podemos, its support to Pedro Sánchez is based on its revolutionary Marxism, on its belief in the battle of classes and in its voluntary blindness facing the dictatorial and police path followed by Venezuela advised by them.
In the case of Catalan separatists, their motivation is obvious. Anything weakening the government of the nation, anything eliminating the 155, anything allowing them to reopen their “embassies” and to continue to support the “process” will be fine.
In the case of PNV and the Basque parties, their main motivation is to support a weak central Government, which will make easier for them to get economic concessions and to move towards a Basque Country confederate with Spain.
In the case of Rivera, his motivation is to make possible a call for future elections. In those, he hopes to get a sufficient majority to be able to govern, possibly with the support of PP, or even PSOE. He will certainly be sorry about not having said no to the Budget, which would have taken Rajoy to call elections. Rivera will not accept that the call, which at the moment favors him facing PP and PSOE, is postponed.
In the case of Rajoy, his main motivation was to continue to govern, without caring about corruption, since, as he said, “everyone has it”, or about the collapse of his own party. He has not been able to admit and apologize for what is evident or to take a step back.
Thus far the serious risk to which Spain has been subjected by politicians. However, behind every risk, there is always an opportunity.
