Spain is the country of the European Union with the most victims of identity theft registered, according to numbers of the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat). In the last twelve months, 7% of the Spanish Internet users have been victims of this crime, facing a community average of 4%.
The information, provided in a statement by the company specializing in user data collection Hocelot, highlights that the identity theft is one of the crimes that has increased the most in the last years, due to the rise of the digital world. Criminals use fraudulent strategies such as ‘phishing’ to access bank accounts, get credit or hire products and services passing themselves off as other people.
