Alfonso Dastis and Ömer Çelik, yesterday in Madrid.
The Diplomat. 29/09/2017
The Foreign Minister, Alfonso Dastis, met the Turkish Minister for European Union Affairs, Ömer Çelik, with whom he went over the state of Turkey’s membership negotiations, the future of the Customs Union, the situation of the refugees and “matters related to the civil society and the rule of Law”.
That meeting coincided with the decision made by the judge of the National Court Ismael Moreno of granting probation with precautionary actions to the journalist Hamza Yalcin while his extradition to Turkey, where he has been claimed for crimes of training and leadership of terrorist organization, is being processed.
The judge imposed as precautionary actions the obligation of appearing every week before that judicial body or the closest court to his residence, the withdrawal of his passport and the prohibition of leaving the territory without judicial authorization.
Moreno, with the favourable report of the Public Prosecutor, reformed the edict of unconditional prison, ordered on 4 August, once Yalcin has residence in the city of Barcelona facilitated by the entity Pen Catalá, in collaboration with the City Council led by Ada Colau, who will guarantee his lodging in Spain during the processing of the extradition procedure.
