The visit of Spain’s King and Queen to the United Kingdom from 12 to 14 July will be accompanied by important security measures, after the last wave of terrorist attacks perpetrated in that country, according to information provided to The Diplomat.
Those British and Spanish in charge of the trip’s organization are giving special importance to the issue of security so that the visit develops normally.
This is the first visit of State to the United Kingdom after the attacks of London and Manchester and important gatherings are expected in some of the functions, in which they will be accompanied by members of the British Royal Family. Although the programme of events has not been made public officially yet, it is known that the King and Queen will stay at the Buckingham Palace, and that there will be a meeting with the British Prime Minister, Theresa May, if she continues leading the Government after today’s election, or with whoever succeeds her in the position.
The last attacks force to take extra precautions for King Felipe and Queen Letizia’s stay
King Felipe, just like his father King Juan Carlos did 31 years ago, is expected to speak before the British Parliament. One of the attacks of London took place close to this institution.
Security measures will also be extended to Oxford, since the last day of the stay of Spain’s King and Queen will develop there. Their visit was going to take place from 6 to 8 June, but it had to be postponed because of the call for general elections.
According to the forecast, halfway through July, the United Kingdom will still remain in the “critical” level of the anti-terrorist alert, which allows soldiers to help the Police in security works.
